Role Overview
This role requires someone with an ability to oversee all accounting functions of our business. The work will reach across the extremes of a financial role, from reconciling bank accounts to producing multi currency management and financial accounts along with an aptitude for developing and maintaining internal financial controls for the company.
The FC will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of both UK and US companies so weekly financial revenue, gross margin and overheads reports can be maintained and analysed. This will necessitate implementing and/or working with current accounting softwares to allow procedures for accurate management and reconciliation of projects, as well as overheads.
Overseeing and employing a part time book keeper who liaises with office and project teams for payments and invoicing.
Liaise with and manage US accountants and possible US Book keeper to integrate the US LLC into financial and management accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the company’s financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivables for both the UK and US companies.
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for ongoing and upcoming projects, including forward buying currencies for projects.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
- Manage bonus, profit share allocations across employees and film directors.
- Project Accounting:
- For both US & UK companies integrate project transactions that allow:
- the ability to prepare job transaction reports to allow actual job reconciliations with producers.
- manage the sign off of job reconciliation with producers, production managers.
- manage exchange rate implications across revenues and costs for financial and management accounting.
- maintain an overall revenue and gross margins company wide excel/google spreadsheet for weekly analysis.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Prepare and file VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors, for both US and UK companies.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, integrating both US and UK companies.
- Payroll Management:
- Process payroll for permanent and freelance staff, ensuring accurate tax and pension contributions.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with employment laws.
- Strategic Planning:
- Set up and manage the US financial integration and reporting with US Accountant.
- Analyse financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings.
- Manage cashflows in each territory for maximising interest and FX gains.
- Support the preparation of financial forecasts and annual budgets.
- Contribute to strategic planning discussions by providing financial insights.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Education:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent certification (qualified or part-qualified candidates will be considered).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within the creative or production industry.
- Proven experience managing project budgets and cost tracking.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in accounting software (we currently use Accounting Edge) and Excel. We are open to investing in a multi currency, multi company software solution.
- Knowledge of UK tax laws, including VAT and payroll regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with non-financial stakeholders.
