Lewis More O’Ferrall retires

Lewis has decided to retire from the Chairmanship of the APA.

He has been defending and championing his beloved industry as Chairman for just over 40 years. He has served his time! He was a lion at the gates and an ambassador without equal beyond those same gates. John Hackney has always said about him ‘he missed his vocation, he is so utterly fearless, he should have been a General leading men into battle’. He even looks the part.

I am sure those who know him, and those who don’t, would like to join me in offering up our heartfelt thanks to someone who’s selfless and tireless commitment benefited our industry in ways largely unseen by most. During my tenure as CEO, I have had unfettered access to Lewis’s invaluable wisdom and intelligence on tap, whenever I needed him. I’ve lost count of the number of his holidays I’ve tried to ruin!

Lewis owned and managed a series of successful production companies, attended his first AFVPA meeting in 1979, joined in 1981, became Chairman of the Main committee in 1985 after serving on the Plaitzky report committee. Then in 1999, John Hackney and Lewis became Chairmen together and the three of us have worked to ensure the APA is as effective as possible.

In spite of the above, and isn’t it often the way when someone is so accomplished, Lewis is a modest man and he avoids the limelight at all costs. Naturally, we would have hosted some form of event in his honour but this is not really his style. John and I have the thumbscrews out currently and you never know………………
