Jonathan Gales

We were very sorry to hear of the tragic death of the animator and director Jonathan Gales, Factory Fifteen at Nexus Studios.

This is from Nexus’s founders Chris and Charlotte:

We are saddened beyond words to share that our friend and director Jonathan Gales of Factory Fifteen, has died after being struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Los Angeles, on the evening of Friday 18th November.

Jono was a young father of a one-year-old. It’s an unimaginable family tragedy, and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife Claire, their family and friends, as well as Jono’s partners at Factory Fifteen with whom he had worked since they graduated together from The Bartlett.

We will find a proper time and place to celebrate Jono, but to briefly say he was a warm, kind and thoughtful person and colleague, and a friend to many in our studio. He was of course also an extremely talented and inspiring director. He had won a BAFTA just recently and alongside Paul and Kibwe, he was continuing to work on an array of visionary projects. He is going to be greatly missed by everyone at Nexus Studios and the scale of the loss to his family and friends cannot be expressed. Right now we all feel simply heartbroken.

Yours,
Charlotte & Chris
