Motion Designer

Role: Motion Designer

Team: Moving Image

Reports to (Line Manager): Creative Director – Moving Image

Reports in (Direct Reports): None


Fully embracing our ‘Design Together’ ethos, Motion Designers will provide vital support for one of our most important
client relationships. You will become a trusted guardian for our client’s brand, and get to know their design requirements
inside-out. You’ll work alongside designers and art workers internally and with product and marketing managers externally,
to deliver distinctive, effective, and on-brand motion design. This role requires high levels of problem solving, talent and
passion for delivering on-brand visuals, communication, and collaboration.

We’re looking for someone with the following;

• A great reel of exciting motion graphics, demonstrating a keen eye for composition, timing, and detail and the ability to work in a wide range of aesthetic styles
• Experience in working across different brands and categories, ideally with experience working extensively on a high-profile client account
• A collaborative and supportive attitude
• An ability to demonstrate a clear link between your conceptual thinking and visual output
• Excellent spoken and written English
• At least 2 years’ experience working within an in-house brand team or creative agency in a motion design role

Responsibility and skills:

• Support the client to conceptualise, design and execute dynamic motion graphics, cinematics and animated assets with commercial awareness
• Develop designs from style frames, storyboards, and treatments through to final polished animations
• An original thinker, able to communicate your ideas both internally and externally
• Able to take direction from all angles without losing sight of the original brief and goals
• An advocate of ‘Design Together’, The Canopy Studio’s collaborative ethos
• Expert knowledge of After Effects, Premiere Pro and Adobe Suite

Teamwork and Collaboration 

• Bring enthusiasm and energy to your role, whilst motivating others to do the same
• Develop an expert knowledge of our client’s brand, and own the delivery of their motion design projects, taking and implementing feedback well from the client
• Develop a strong and trusting relationship with our client, giving them absolute confidence in our ability to provide on-brand, on-budget and on-time motion design for all projects
• Demonstrate an understanding of the strategic direction on all projects
• Present your work in internal and client reviews using relevant media, eg: written ideas, storyboards, style frames
• Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and the moving image team to find the optimum way of realising the design intent from the outset of projects, ensuring the offering is always on-brand
• Work in a collaborative and engaged way with the broader team

• Continually seek opportunities to realise our client’s brand in the most effective way possible
• Offer insight into your curiosity across design sector and share this with the team
• Demonstrate self-awareness, communicate with and help mentor juniors and interns

• Demonstrate your investment and input on projects as part of a Creative team

Organisation and Planning

• Adhere to our processes when creating and saving client materials, internal assets, and final files
• Engage in meetings and team sessions
• Monitor and engage in discussion regarding your workflow via our chosen project management system
• Manage and log of time spent on tasks as and when is requested
• Advise when requested on queries from team members regarding project timings and deliverables
• Attend both external and internal meetings, calls and the studio on time, every time
• Adhere to our processes when requesting leave, and take all allocated annual leave as required
