Group Learning & Development Assistant (GLDA)

The Learning and Development team at The Mill supports our studios in London, New York, LA and Chicago, with an extended remit that includes a Mill facility in Bangalore, India and the exciting prospect of supporting the recently announced Mill Film project.
Role Overview
The Group Learning & Development Assistant (GLDA) is a key role supporting the Group Head of Learning and Development (GHLD) across multiple projects in two key areas; Learning & Development and Diversity & Inclusion.
The Mill has a well-developed group-wide L&D programme providing both internal and external workshops and events. The GLDA is responsible for delivering administration and support across all aspects of the L&D programme to ensure consistent and effective delivery across all studios and our online learning tool, Mill Academy.
With a keen interest in creative-led and innovative workplace learning solutions, the GLDA will have a passion for the professional development of others and a strong understanding and belief in the creative and commercial priority for diversity and inclusion. They will be instrumental in supporting the GHLD on both the internal drive for D&I and The Mill’s leadership position as part of industry diversity and inclusion movement ACCESS: VFX, and partnering on a range of careers events and high-profile outreach initiatives.
The role requires strong organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to react and adapt to a very dynamic working environment. We are looking for a keen people connector with excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work well with employees, training suppliers and industry partners at all levels whilst providing solutions to challenges and proposals.
Key responsibilities:
The Group Learning & Development Curriculum
  • Schedule internal and external training workshops, coaching sessions and events across the group in liaison with appropriate teams; Talent/HR/Client Services/PR & Marketing and external suppliers & venues
  • Research new training initiatives and current thought leadership
  • Identify trends and themes for new training content in liaison with Group HR/Talent and feedback forms
  • Design and collate group wide workshop and anecdotal feedback and implement agreed actions
  • Work closely with Group Talent and HR to identify and target attendees for Mill Management and
    Leadership Training Programmes
  • Track attendance levels, produce stats and relevant insights in line with company guidelines
  • Support the delivery of introductory training workshops and collaborate with Group Talent on the delivery
    and design of new workshops and initiatives
  • Support and collaborate with creative disciplines and departments to identify hard skills training and
    relevant software developments
  • Manage Mill Academy online training pages and users
  • Administer Group Mentoring Programme and Internal New Starter buddy scheme
  • Identify and meet potential new training suppliers
  • Liaise with current preferred training suppliers on logistics for group workshops and plans for the year
  • Collaborate with Group Talent/HR Teams on internal projects such as Career Paths and Talent Mapping
Diversity & Inclusion
  • Support monthly ACCESS: VFX meetings including compiling the agenda and implementing agreed actions
  • Co-chair ACCESS: VFX meetings and running initiatives in the absence of the GHLD
  • Manage and update ACCESS: VFX website
  • Organise, curate and plan the annual National Inclusion Week event each September
  • Organise and attend monthly Mill Inclusion Network Meeting and implement actions
  • Support the The Mill’s Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Charter
Events and social media
  • Organise, curate and plan annual and other internal and external events with Group Talent/HR including Learning at Work Week every May in line with the Campaign for Learning’s theme and The Mill’s Internal Creative Learning Week taking place bi-annularly.
  • Attend internal and external events to build network, share ideas and maximise social presence.
  • Manage all ACCESS: VFX social channels to support L&D and D&I initiatives; research and authorship of
    articles and contributors, uploading and live posting from events.
Apprentice Programme
• Administration, recruitment and delivery of The Mill’s apprenticeship programme, including wider collaboration with external VFX studios and training suppliers.
Reporting & Admin
  • Collate monthly HR Board Report statistics, attendance levels and narrative information on a monthly basis
  • Ensure efficient processing of supplier invoices in line with Finance guidelines
  • Liaise with the Finance team on budgets including tracking and annual budget submissions
  • Organise group travel and accommodation for GHLD and relevant training suppliers


  • A self-starter who has had relevant experience of working in a HR/Training environment and has been involved in the delivery of some basic L&D content
  • A real passion for both workplace learning and diversity and inclusion
  • A consistent track record for leading projects through to successful outcomes
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication, twinned with excellent interpersonal skills and experience
    of working across all levels of a business
  • Willingness to work evenings when necessary, this role requires flexibility to work late at across Mill, ACCESS:
    VFX and external events
Desirable skills:
  • A basic understanding of WordPress and Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience working in a busy environment with the ability to handle high volumes of work
  • Excellent written skills, this role will require some article authorship and blogging
