General Manager

 About TEA films 

We are an award-winning film production company, led by brothers Adam Kes Hipkin and Dan Patrick Hipkin (the Co-Directors). 

We were founded in 2008 based on a love of diverse and inclusive storytelling. Our team of creatives work hand-in-hand with clients, bringing the consistency of an in-house production team to every project. 

We work collaboratively at every stage of production to produce quality tailored content. We are looking for somebody with a passion for our mission whose values align with ours. 

Our work is broken down into four categories: 

  • Film & Docs (BBC, MTV, and Picturehouse Cinemas) 
  • Theatre (The Royal Court, The Globe, The Young Vic, Donmar Warehouse, Secret Cinema, and Punchdrunk) 
  • Music (Fender, Spotify, npr Tiny Desk, Audio Network, BBC Introducing, and The Close Encounter Club). 
  • Promos (BBC, BFI, NSPCC, Porsche, The WOW Foundation, Imperial War Museums, Hugo Boss, and Barclays) 

Role Summary 

We are seeking an efficient and reliable individual who will be a key role within the core team. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company, you will work closely with the two Co-Directors in all aspects of project operations, administration, and finance. We are looking for someone who enjoys maintaining systems and processes. 

This is an exciting time to be joining the TEA films team as we are expanding and our clients are becoming wider ranging and more diverse. We have also recently moved into our new offices in Brixton with space to develop and grow. 

Job Details 

  • Responsible to: The Co-Directors 
  • Responsible for: Freelancers 
  • Salary: £32,000 per annum 
  • Pension: Auto-enrolment in the company pension scheme on completion of probation, with 5% employee and 3% employer contribution. 
  • Employment Period: 12 Months with a view to becoming Permanent. 
  • Hours: Monday to Friday 10am-6pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required, and TEA films offer a TOIL Policy. 
  • Annual Leave: 23 days per annum, plus bank holidays. An additional day’s holiday will be added per calendar year of full-time employment up to 28 days. 
  • Probationary Period: Three months 
  • Start Date: As soon as possible according to the candidate’s notice period. 

Leadership, Management & Strategic Planning 

  • Help appoint and manage all staff and freelance personnel, including drawing up contracts, management of timesheets and oversight of invoice payments. 
  • Develop and maintain employment policies in line with legislation including Recruitment Policy, Induction Policy, and Training Policy. 
  • Deliver compliance with all legal obligations and requirements including Companies Act, Insurances, Health & Safety, Employment Law, and Data Protection. 
  • Develop and deliver all company policies including Equal Opportunities Policy, Diversity Action Plan, Environmental Policy, Safe Working Practices Policy, and Employment, Grievance and Dispute Policy. 
  • To lead on project and other funding applications. 
  • To proactively reach out for new business and clients for TEA films. 
  • Devise and manage a system of office management to include project timings and invoice control. 
  • To initiate project planning from first enquiry to client sign off including liaison with TEA films Co-Directors. 
  • To be the principle point of contact with Brixton House on all office and facilities matters. 
  • To maintain staff development, leave and sickness records. 
  • To maintain the Company Handbook and ensure all the HR and company policies, practices and action plans are up to date. 
  • Work with the Co-Directors to establish and manage effective partnerships in order to achieve ambitions and support successful delivery. 
  • Develop marketing and branding strategies for TEA films. 
  • Develop and update our newsletter database and sending out e-newsletters. 


  • Deliver the day-today financial management of TEA films, including: running the monthly payroll, PAYE, National Insurance, Pensions and all other payroll requirements. 
  • Preparation of any finance reports as required. 
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns. 
  • Carrying out the company’s financial duties using a computerised accounting package (currently QuickBooks) including data input, payments, sales invoicing, bank reconciliation. 
  • Identifying potential fundraising opportunities. 
  • Oversee core operation element of project budgets. 


Deliver the day-to-day administration of TEA films including: 

  • Maintaining the company office including maintaining paperless filing systems. 
  • Handling correspondence and enquires. 
  • Ordering stationery and office supplies where necessary. 
  • Taking detailed minutes at meetings. 
  • Arranging the necessary annual insurances, including review of breadth of levels of cover. 
  • Handling any insurance claims correspondence. 
  • Ensuring all necessary risk assessments are carried out for all of TEA films activities. 
  • Ensuring all relevant DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks are carried out. 

Any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Co-Directors including: 

  • Attend weekly company meetings and team meetings and update on activities as required. 
  • Represent TEA films at events and advocating for the company. 
  • Undertake any additional tasks as may be required by the Co-Directors 
  • Assisting the Co-Directors in maintaining TEA films Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other social media. 

Person Specification 

Essential skills, experience and attributes: 

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position in a creative environment. 
  • Enthusiasm to drive forward a dynamic and award-winning film company. 
  • Knowledge of relevant software and spreadsheets. 
  • Experience of contract negotiations with production companies as well as freelance creatives. 
  • Enjoys being a member of a creative and dynamic team. 
  • Excellent budgetary and financial management skills and ability to deliver on financial targets. 
  • The ability to be highly organised with excellent administrative skills. 
  • Excellent people management with the ability to inspire and motivate with a warm, collaborate attitude.

  • Experience of developing partnerships.
