The 35 strong delegation, representing 27 London production/vfx and editing companies took part in the APA’s latest overseas marketing initiative. Creative London Comes To Silicon Valley. We were hosted by Silicon Valley companies changing the way that advertisers communicate with consumers, including You Tube/Google, Netflix, Twitter and AT&amp;T and they provided us with a brilliant week of learning and new connections.<br />
The Report tells you who went from London, who we met and what we learnt and provides conclusions about how new ways of communication can be used by APA members to help the agencies and advertisers they work for reach their objectives, thus ensuring that London commercials production remains at the forefront of innovation and new thinking in commercials production in its broadest sense.

<p>As ever, the aim of our event is to provide you with the best insights into the potential of new means for brands to communicate with consumers, so you can consider how to adapt your business to take advantage of the opportunities they open up. It has become a very popular event because  all the information is crammed into one afternoon via short presentations (and at a much lower cost than advertising conferences).</p>

<p>This year, there will be a focus on our learning from Silicon Valley and sharing that with all our members who attend The Future of Advertising&#8230;In One Afternoon. <p>Creative London comes to Silicon Valley enabled APA members to get real insights of where the future of advertising lies and how they can ensure they are part of it.</p>

<p>Our 35 strong delegation from London- you can see who was part of the delegation here <a href="http://bit.ly/Xz1f8Q" title="http://bit.ly/Xz1f8Q">http://bit.ly/Xz1f8Q</a> - was immersed in Silicon Valley insights and culture in a whirlwind week of meetings with companies at the forefront of future thinking: Woven Media, Siggraph/Lucas Film, Radium One, Twitter, Heat, Tout, AT&amp;T Foundry, You Tube/Google, BBDO, Tout, Orange Brand Lab, Blinx and Netflix.</p>

<p>Having invested a lot of research, with UKTI, into which companies would be the most interesting for our delegates, we were invited to receive a warm welcome at each of them, with senior personel presenting and engaging with our delegates and being prepared to answer our delegates questions very openly, in terms of their view of the future of advertising and their companies offering within it, and how delegates might engage with that. The companies we visited very much welcomed the opportunity to engage with companies representing the highest quality content production, in a future in which they see the value of that expertise.</p>

<p>Among the trends the companies we met with identified were:</p>

<p>The internet moving from being a banner ad medium to being a video medium.<br />
The internet generally becoming a mobile medium.<br />
Within that the viewing of video rapidly moving from computers to mobile (You Tube/Google reported that 10% of video is viewed on mobile today and that that figure would rise to 70% by 2016).<br />
Social taking over from search in terms of engagement of consumers.<br />
Real time animation becoming readily and cost effectively available for advertising.<br />
A move away from research to making more content and monitoring its effectiveness by the minute, rather than having to wait two or three months to start to analsye a campaign’s impact, enabling brands to push and or expand content that is working and stop using content that is not.<br />
Big Data and its value in targeting growing as better data and targeting enable advertisers to place their advertising very precisely at their target consumer.</p>

<p>All these points and the research on advertising and markets that the companies we met with shared with us will be published in a report for APA members on Creative London comes to Silicon Valley.</p>

<p>Thank  you to all our delegates and all the companies we met with and to UKTI for making the event such a success and ensuring that we all learnt as much as possible and had the opportunity to start to build valuable networks with Silicon Valley.

<p>APA delegation at the offices of You Tube/Google in Silicon Valley to learn about the latest innovations from You Tube and how they can be utilised for the benefit of advertisers. The marketing and development teams from You Tube/Google presented to the 35 members of the APA delegation- Creative London comes to Silicon Valley. The delegation has also visited Netflix, Radium One, Heat, Twitter, Mobi TV, Tout, the Lucas Arts campus , BBDO and AT&amp;T Labs, with two more days of meetings to go.</p>

        <p>We and our members were  shocked and saddened at the untimely death of Russell Benson, Head of Television at Ogilvy. Russell was universally popular and greatly respected as an agency producer and, on behalf of our members, we express our deepest sympathies to his partner, Sally Miller and his family, friends and colleagues.</p>

<p>In the words of one production company MD, &#8220;It is hard to understand why tragic things like this happen to the good ones. And Russell was one of the good ones. So let us celebrate his life and remember all of the remarkable things Russell accomplished, let us remember his energy, let us remember his warmth and let us remember his dynamism. Russell, you’ve left a hole in the industry that’s impossible to fill. You’ll be sadly missed.” </p>
